Gas Pipe Leak Repair Service

How can you tell if you have a gas pipe leak in your home or office?
If you smell rotten eggs, this is a tell-tale sign of a gas leak. Natural gas actually has no smell in its original state, however natural gas companies add a rotten egg odor so that you can detect leaks easier.
A damaged connection in an appliance, which uses natural gas is a common problem. This could include your stove, bbq grill, gas water heater, etc. If you notice that rotten egg smell, or you hear a hissing sound. You may very well have a gas leak.
The 1st step is to find out the exact source of the gas leak so that it can be repaired quickly and safely. One trick is to make a mixture of soap & water. Then apply this mixture to the connection / tubes where you think the gas leak is coming from. The rule is - where there are bubbles, there is a leak. If bubbles come out from where the two pieces connect to one another, fixing the leak may be as easy as tightening the fixtures. If it is bubbling up from the tube, you most likely are going to have to replace the tube altogether.
There are 3 different levels of gas leaks, and they divided in grades. Grade 1 is the most serious and Grade 3 is the least problematic. If you think that you have a gas leak in your home or office, the last thing you want to do is turn on or off any electrical appliances. If you do, an electrical spark can follow, which can ignite the gas causing an explosion or fire.
Call Frank Gay Services today and let one of our experienced plumbing technicians repair your gas pipe leak. This way you can avoid any injuries or disasters that may happen when trying to repair the gas pipe leak yourself.

If you smell a natural gas odor, hear a hissing sound of gas escaping, or see other signs of a gas leak:
- REMAIN calm.
- DON'T light a match, candle or cigarette.
- DON'T turn electrical appliances or lights on or off, or use any device that could cause a spark.
- IMMEDIATELY EVACUATE the area, and from a safe location, call Frank Gay Services at (407) 293-2642 - We are Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
NOTE: If a gas leak occurs in an underground pipe, the surrounding soil or concrete may oxidize or absorb the odor. Which basically means that the natural gas will no
longer have an odor. As a result, natural gas leaking from underground piping
may not be detectable by smell.
RULE OF THUMB: Do not rely on your sense of smell alone to alert you to the presence of a natural gas pipe leak.

How to Locate and Respond to a Gas Leak
Use all your senses when trying to locate a natural gas leak. Use your sight,
hearing and smell, in addition with any of the following warning signs. This will greatly assist you in locating a gas leak:
Look
- A damaged connection to any appliance using gas
- Water or dirt being blown in the air, caused by escaping gas
- Dying or unhealthy looking vegetation near gas pipe line areas
- A fire or explosion near a pipe line
- Exposed gas pipe after a natural disaster ie: earthquake, hurricane, tornado, flood, fire, etc.
Listen
- A hissing, or whistling sound near a gas line or appliance connection
Smell
- The distinctive odor of natural gas (rotten egg smell)
NOTE: Some people may not be able to smell the natural gas odor, because
the person may have a less keen sense of smell. There is also a condition called "olfactory fatigue" (a temporary inability to distinguish an odor after prolonged exposure to
it) or because the odor is being hidden or covered up by other odors that
are present. This may include cooking, musty, damp, or chemical odors. Also, there are certain conditions in pipes and soils that can cause gas odor to fade.
